Reality outdoes politician’s capabilities to deal with data (1) #replacepoliticianswithAI
DATA WHAT DATA?
Current parliament in Spain has only 44/350 = 12.6 % members educated with STEM. Conversely, law background tops to 160/350= 45.7%.
Have you notice of any university, company, or equivalent entity without a beam projector or equivalent device to analyse the data behind a problem or any other kind of information? Could you imagine a TED talk without supporting slides/video, etc. Even SME have it but parliaments.
Now examine these images of parliaments in Spain.
DESPRESTIGE OF POLITICS
The analysis of Spanish population shows that the prestige of politics has declined dramatically and populist parties increase their share market between voters. How could this happened?
Could be the availability of data and other information in the root of such prestige decline? Stating false data is equally possible now and 20 years ago but currently is easily fact checked.
What do the politicians do? they promise emotional goods. A new nation, more freedom, to be the most advanced country, apply justice, etc. emotional goods and mottoes, the hardly reachable the better, and, of course, without any bunch of #data supporting it.
APPROACH AS STUPID VOTERS
I challenge you to find quantitative promises in the programs of political parties PP, PSOE. Why? Because using figures reflects the actual complexity of reality and the difficulties to find solutions and to evolve them in order to keep them aligned with the problems.
Additionally the few used indexes does not reflect people’s concerns (i.e. Spanish population biggest concern) is the unemployment with a mere overall figure while it could be how many of them are really getting some kind of help, how the implemented plans help to find a new job, etc. Effectiveness of taken measures are rarely debated.
REPORT THE EXPENSE NOT THE EFFECT
Few, if any, of the political laws enacted in our parliaments is assessed for its results but for the right expenditure of the money in the promised tax concepts. Do you remember plan E. Effects hardly were economic effects impact on employment but clear and quick increase in public debt ? in a four-years election period is short enough to be properly examined. And therefore nobody pays attention in next election because, and this is only one hipothesis
Why political parties does not promise, barely, anything reflected in numbers?
