Agile standardization and AI agents: Normalizing the open data ecosystem in real time
Alcalá de Henares, September 2026. Within the framework of the XIII GIGAPP Congress, Dr. Alberto Abella—Manager of the Gaia-X Spanish Hub and expert at the Cotec Foundation—presented the paper “Agile standardization and AI agents: Normalizing the open data ecosystem in real time”. During the session, he warned that although artificial intelligence accelerates data publishing, it also creates growing fragmentation by generating schemas without prior coordination. To overcome this lag compared to slow traditional committees, he advocated for adopting the principles of the Manifesto for Agile Standardization.
The proposed solution combines the international Smart Data Models initiative with the deployment of intelligent agents that integrate semantic normalization directly into the publishing process. Drawing on the experience of https://spain.meloda.org, Abella demonstrated how using agents enables the autonomous evaluation and reuse of over 200,000 datasets in Spain. In conclusion, combining agile standardization, AI, and quality metrics is essential to turn fragmented data into strategic assets with real impact.
